I was talking with my girldriends last week and we realized that we had never taken a vacation together! We have made plans several times but they never materialized, mainly because one of us was always broke!

But we decided that 2011 was going to be the year that sees us all travelling together. We want a party destination, somewhere we could laze around during the day and go out at night. So we settled on Miami!! Yep, the city of sunny beaches, great cocktails and incredible nightlife.

The tentative date for this trip is June 2011. We've already started saving money. No excuses this time!

I went to Cuba a couple of years ago and met a couple of Americans holidaying there. I was quite surprised as I thought that they were not allowed to travel to Cuba. They told me they had to go through Canada in order to be able to visit the island. I found that a tad dramatic.

It's been recently reported that US President barack Obama mays ease US travel to Cuba. I guess American holidaymakers will soon have to stop playing spies ;-)

I've just read an interesting article about how travellers should learn to better read the small print when buying annual travel insurance. I agree in some way: you need to know what you are paying for.

But on the other hand, I wuish that travel insurance companies would devise a simple insurance and write it in layman terms, in a document that would contain only 10 bullet points. But I guess that will never happen.

Today I read a funny story from the Daily Mail. A poll revealed that holidaymakers who have holiday homes felt pressured to lend them for free to friends and family. If I were them, my answer would be a resounding Hell NO! This holiday house is not going to pay for itself.

I wouldn't charge the normal holiday ratem but they would have to pay some kind of a fee. After all, do I ask them to pay for my travel insurance?
